LIPOSCULPTURE
This surgical procedure aims to remove fat deposits from various parts of the body. Its goal is to sculpt and reduce size; it is not intended for weight loss, as it does not replace a balanced diet or exercise. Therefore, it should not be performed on obese patients.
The surgical procedure:
Create small incisions in the skin, each less than 1 cm, in carefully chosen areas that aren't very visible. Insert steel cannulas connected to a vacuum system to remove subcutaneous fat (liposuction or lipoaspiration). The extracted fat can be used to add volume to the buttocks, hips, face, or for correcting defects such as depressions or asymmetries through fat grafting. Keep in mind that the maximum limit for fat extraction is usually 7% to 10% of the total body weight.
You can choose to have liposuction accompanied by VASER (ultrasound), laser, or radiofrequency. These techniques generate heat, which helps tighten the skin in areas where sagging may occur after fat removal, such as the arms, thighs, and back. They also reduce fibrosis from previous liposuctions and speed up recovery time by causing less inflammation and bruising. However, because these techniques destroy fat cells (lipolysis), the extracted fat cannot be used for injections. These techniques are performed before or during liposuction, as the procedure involves passing cannulas through the skin to remove fat. There is also vibroliposuction, which uses vibrating cannulas to make it easier to extract fat with fewer surgeon movements.
Duration
1 to 6 hours is required, depending on the patient's needs and the amount of fat to be extracted.
Medical inability
1 to 2 weeks.
Anesthesia
Local if it is a small area or general if it is a larger area or several body areas.
Hospitalization
Minimum hospitalization of one day is required if the extracted fat is greater than 4 liters; if it is less, hospitalization is not necessary.
Care
After the surgery, the patient will need to wear a girdle daily for 3 months. For the first month and a half, the girdle should be worn 24 hours a day, and for the following month and a half, it should only be worn at night. Daily massages should start the day after the surgery to help reduce the accumulation of inflammatory fluid under the skin (seromas) and prevent the development of irregularities in the skin. The patient will need at least 10 massage sessions, but more may be required based on the recovery progress. To prevent infections, antibiotics will be prescribed, and analgesics will be provided for pain management. Additionally, antithrombotic prophylaxis will be administered to prevent the formation of blood clots in the legs, which can lead to deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. It's important to follow all preventive measures, including early ambulation and the use of compression stockings, to reduce the risk of these complications. The stitches will be removed after 10 days.
