BUTTOCK IMPLANTS

This procedure consists of placing silicone gluteal implants, which can be oval or round depending on the desired shape and the characteristics of the patient's pelvis. Round implants are the choice for a feminine appearance, while oval implants are used to achieve a more masculine and athletic look. The implants are inserted through a 5 cm incision located between the buttocks (intergluteal fold) and can be placed above the gluteus maximus muscle (subfascial), below it (submuscular), or between its fibers (intramuscular).

Care

This procedure is indicated for patients who do not have sufficient fat deposits for harvesting, i.e., very thin patients, or those who definitively prefer the use of prostheses because they do not wish to undergo liposuction.

For the first 3 days, the patient must follow a liquid diet to prevent bowel movements, thus avoiding the risk of wound contamination with fecal matter. The patient should try not to sit for long periods and sleep on their stomach for the first 3 weeks. Sutures are removed at 3 weeks. No special cushion is required, and it is suggested not to perform exercises involving the gluteal muscles for 6 months after surgery. As gluteal implants are foreign bodies, there is a risk of rejection or capsular contracture, and post-surgical pain is more intense than with gluteal fat injection.

In both techniques, analgesics for pain, antibiotics to prevent infection, and antithrombotic prophylaxis to prevent clot formation in the legs (which could lead to deep vein thrombosis or travel through the bloodstream to the lungs causing a pulmonary embolism) are prescribed. This is one of the possible complications, but by following all preventive measures, including early ambulation and the use of compression stockings, the aim is to reduce the risk of its occurrence.
